Talk about a delicious opportunity.

Lovebirds Donuts came to me by way of Wild Valentine. This highly Instagrammable brand is not only darling, but their donuts—and coffee beverages—are completely vegan, which is right up my alley!

I couldn’t have been more jazzed to get their call.

After a test session, Lovebirds Donuts became a subscription client, which means they get photos from me every month.

Not only that, Lovebirds also gets video and animated GIFs, because they enrolled on a Digital Media Styling subscription.

Lovebirds was mostly looking for a way to make their online ordering menu more mouth-watering, but they also wanted to be able to cross-purpose the images for Instagram. That’s why we went with the Digital Media option—it allows me to shoot with either my phone or my pro camera, depending on what the situation calls for, and results in more versatile content that can work across sites and social media.

After the first couple months allowed me to settle in and get to know the brand a little better, I was able to take creative license and start styling the donuts in ways that made the content more sharable, easier to engage with on IG.

This is challenging, but Tamara, one of the great minds behind the Lovebirds brand, has been very open to experimentation, trial, and error as we create content to help them expand their donut empire.

My favorite part of shooting for Lovebirds Donuts is styling scenes like the ones below, where I sort of get to “explain” the donut with a series of props. Here we see the “Cookies & (Oat) Cream” donut, shot on my Sony mirrorless digital camera, and the “Rootbeer Float” donut, shot on my iPhone X.

Also fun to capture are seasonal and holiday flavors—meaning donut flavors that are reflective of the literal season or special occasions that fall within that month.

For example, here’s the Halloween dark chocolate ganache-dipped donut, and some videography created for the fall menu in general:

And here are some photos from their holiday donuts and drinks menus!

I’m proud of our work together so far, and look forward to our teamwork only getting better in the New Year. For 2022, I’d like to expand our work to include more human elements, so that the Lovebirds audience will see how these vegan options can add a little more joy and delight to their daily lifestyle.
